The Belly Dance Guild didn’t begin with a grand master plan—it began with a familiar frustration shared by many in the belly dance community. Again and again, members of the belly dance community found themselves missing out on events, or searching for teachers in their area, and wishing there was one reliable place to see what was happening and when.
Out of that frustration came a simple question: What if there were a community calendar where teachers and event organizers could post their offerings in one easy-to-find place? It was a small idea with big potential, and it quickly started to resonate in conversations throughout the community.
The vision grew stronger through connections with other thriving dance communities, including the former Portland Belly Dance Guild, which showed what’s possible when dancers come together around a shared purpose. That spark carried into the Bay Area, where conversations turned into planning and planning turned into momentum.
Like so many things, progress paused during COVID—but the idea never disappeared. Over time, more collaborators stepped in, each bringing their own strengths and perspectives. With patience, flexibility, and a lot of heart, the pieces slowly came together.
Today, The Belly Dance Guild exists because of that collective effort—a community-built space rooted in the belief that dancers thrive when they support one another. It’s a place for connection, discovery, and growth, for everyone who loves this art form.

The Story of our Logo![]() As The Belly Dance Guild Steering Committee brainstormed the essence of their organization, they envisioned a logo that would capture the very spirit that brought them together. The challenge was to encapsulate the dynamic energy of belly dance and the richness of their diverse community within a single, iconic symbol. The logo, designed by Gobsmacked, incorporates curved lines and dots done in the jewel-toned color palette of lapis, ruby, emerald, topaz, turquoise and amethyst. The curved lines embody the fluidity of movement – the graceful arcs a representation of dancers in motion and the melody of music, while the curved, spiraling colors connote the swirling of props we all love to wield. Even the concentric circles carry meaning, being the shape and various sizes of finger cymbals that many of us find essential. Each line tells a story, a unique expression of the individuals who lend their talents and energy to the community. And the dots. Each tiny speckle stands for an individual, a member, a piece of the colorful tapestry that is our diverse community. Every dot representing the myriad personalities that contribute to the collective whole. Yet, these dots do not remain isolated; they gather around the curves, forming constellations of unity, illustrating that even in their diversity, they are bound by the same love for movement, and music, and dance. And so, the logo is more than a design – it's a beacon, which reminds all who see it that through movement, through dance, through music, and through the diverse individuals who came together, the beauty of unity can be celebrated and shared, forever capturing the essence of our remarkable journeys together. |
